(Afterthought) additionally regarding the human-component: it also can boost one's self of competence/skill/morale/what have you when another person (instructor) with whom you have been working/practicing/labouring can share with you the progress they've seen in that effort.. saying how things have improved, still need work, etc. Being told my strike is 18% more accurate just wouldn't have the same effect.

Am I making any sense? My brain feels kinda squishy today.

.....man I miss being a musician... :) get over here and get me re-acquainted, mister... :)

To be honest I only gave the article a quick read and I'm not sure I'm clear on how exactly it works.. But assuming I get it, I agree on several of your points. Ultimately too there's just something to be said about having in person instruction that doesn't translate though robotics. So much more expertise can come through a person that tecnhology does not provide. Absolute rigid form does not always make the best music. If a person doesn't have innate musical tendencies or skill, I don't think this contraption would allow for one's own musical growth and experimentation.

Since I'm at work I can't expand, but essentially I'd take a person instructing me over this thing any day.

beautifully stated. i love the type of insights you devise when approached with concepts like this. it goes far beyond the awe-struck approach you can imagine the creators of this device were going for.

you were definitely a student of jeff's.
