In The Groove Edits

Edits are sorted first by type and then by chronological creation date, newest to earliest. The group labeled "ITG EI2 Tourney Pack" is a series of edits I wrote as "sight-read" edits for a tournament in Eugene which i co-organized with my partner-in-crime Dyaus.

Feedback and criticism are very welcome.

ITG EI2 Tourney Pack:

Anubiac (Anubis) - diff. 10 -- [05 May]
Download - View

A partner edit with "Zodibus", quoting and then expanding upon rhythms from the official "Zodiac" single expert chart. It was also my attempt to use Mine Boxes and Mine Lanes on a single chart.

Dup-de-dup-dup (Disconnected) - diff. 10 -- [05 May]
Download - View

I'm pretty fond of this edit, and in my humble opinion, it's one of my better edits to date. The middle section before the freeze is my attempt at a PSMO-HVAM hybrid.

Hardcore of the Hands (Hardcore of the North) - diff. 10 -- [05 May]
Download - View

I wrote this as a sight-read chart intended to create a pattern that turned into something the player could come to expect right on the spot, not unlike how i treat certain elements of my music composition. I think it's pretty clever, but i'm not sure how practical it is.

Lyric Holler (PA Theme) - diff. 8 -- [05 May]
Download - View

I used to neglect this song because i don't like the official step chart, but then when i actually took the time to listen to the song itself, i thought it had *amazing* potential for a rhythmically complex chart that went with the rapping. I'm pretty happy with it.

Migaka (Kagami) - diff. 8 -- [05 May]
Download - View

This is a more typical darknote sort of chart. Solid, but nothing special. The song offered me a lot of material to work with.

Northern Promises (Don't Promise Me) - diff. 7 -- [05 May]
Download - View

This was my own mutation of the "Hardcore of the North" Hard steps concept of using mines to denote a foot swap. I decided to extend the idea to some Afronova-like flowing.

Sambolina (Solina) - diff. 9 -- [05 May]
Download - View

This chart was an experiment to see how difficult it would be to do Electro-Tuned (or if you prefer "Twilight Zone" on double) double-taps, but on different arrows as opposed to repeating on the same arrow. It also includes a cascading mine effect in the middle section that probably is appreciated more by the person watching the chart as opposed to playing it. I was in my big "use mines for visual design" phase.

Windmills (Disconnected Mobius) - diff. 10 -- [05 May]
Download - View

Marching tenor players will understand the title as it relates to this edit, which attempts new sorts of complex freeze patterns that are designed to turn you completely around. It was defined by caffymajin as "gross". The freezes are why i give it a ten rating, otherwise it would be easily a nine.

xoxoxo (Kiss Me Red) - diff. 8 -- [05 May]
Download - View

This edit was used as the "qualifier" for our sight-read tourney. Again, nothing too special, but solid.

Zodubis (Zodiac) - diff. 10 -- [05 May]
Download - View

Partnered with "Anubiac", quoting and expanding on rhythms from the official "Anubis" single expert chart. Oddly enough, it has the "M-lick" in it. I also attempted to have a "unifying" theme betwen the two charts of a five-note sixteenth pattern, stuff that isn't noticable unless you play both charts back-to-back or long enough to get to know them well.

Other Single Edits

Fricorith (Remember December) - diff. 9 -- [05 Apr]
Download - View

I wanted to make an edit that followed the voice sample. It's an okay edit, somewhat lacking in personality.

For Pete's Sake (While Tha Rekkid Spinz) - diff. 8 -- [05 Mar]
Download - View

I asked Pete what he wanted in a step chart to his music, and he said "something more freestyle-like. More fun, less about FA." This was the result. It's more complex than I wanted it to be for a freestyle chart, but i think it still succeeds as being more of a "fun" chart than anything else. Some of it is influenced from the official "Spin The Disc" chart.

Disconnected Survivor Max Hyper (DSMH) - diff. 10 -- [05 Mar]
Download - View

This was my attempt at writing an edit that mimicked what the death runs of PSMO does but at a tempo more reasonable so that people had an opportunity to try to learn the concept without breaking all of their stamina. A part of this chart is a direct quote from PSMO. small kudos to those that can find it.

Polyrhythdium (Pandemonium) - diff. 12 -- [05 Mar]
Download - View (link currently broken)

This was an experiment in polyrhythm - the use of 3 against 2, 4 against 3, and 5 against 4 - in a way that the player would have to work to learn. Most people who have tried this have griped to me that it's too much, and i'll concede that if most professional american orchestras/string quartets have issues trying to play Elliot Carter due to its polyrhthymic complexity, this might suffer from similar issues, espeically from ITGers that have no great background in music and polyrhythms in particular.

Double Edits

BigBadaBoom (!) - diff. 10 -- [05 Oct]
Download - View

i'm always looking for a new way to implement mines under a 'bigger concept' like my mine boxes, mine lanes, mine curtains, etc. This chart attempts to do what i'm calling a "mine wave" (for lack of a better term) that progresses bigger and smaller and inverts itself, and also does some subsidiary extended mine techniques so that it doesn't get monotonous.

VerPaths^2 (VerTex^2) - diff. 13 -- [05 Sept]
Download

VerTex^2 is so much more complex than VerTex as a song, so i wanted to VerPaths^2 to be similarly more complex than VerPaths. The ending was the most difficult part for me to do as i wanted to create "clues" to where the arrows were going to fall so that someone could potentially FC it on a sight-read. i'm not sure if it's successful, but it's a hell of a lot better than the previous three incarnations.

Strange Attraction (Rom-eo & Juli8) - diff. 8 -- [05 Mar]
Download - View

This chart is trying to tell a love story. In the first part of the song, there's a "call and response" style to the verse between the female and male voice. I separated the two sides of the playing field so that the left side was being used when the male voice was singing, the right side was being used when the female voice was singing, and all 8 panels were used equally when they were both singing together.

In the second verse, that idea sort of falls apart, but since the two voices start to integrate more closely, i had the R and J similarly get closer together and use only the middle six panels as opposed to all 8, and then it's all supposed to come together in the end.

VerPaths (Vertex) - diff. 11 -- [05 Mar]
Download - View

This chart was an expansion of my original Mine Lanes/Mine Boxes concept that was birthed in "DarkNubis". It seems to have gained some reputation in the ITG Community, which is nice. Some of my friends have told me that they started seeing the idea of Mine Lanes and Mine Boxes and "Use Mines to spell out directions as to what's coming" in charts by other authors since this one started the whole thing, which i take as a compliment.

Props To McK (Which MC Was That?) - diff. 7 -- [05 Mar]
Download - View

This chart mimicks the rhythms that I liked out of the original Hard Single chart, rhythms i was disappointed to find didn't exist in the double chart.

DarkNubis (Anubis) - diff. 10 -- [05 Mar]
Download - View

This was the birth of Mine Lanes/Mine Boxes. It also has some wonderfully ugly sixteenth note patterns in the middle section. The best part of the edit is the last two "percussive hits". I'm proud of that moment - it's the new music composer in me coming out to play. Also, the mine placement in the main verse sections are not random. Props to those that can figure out how it works.

ZodiDark (Zodiac) - diff. 9 -- [05 Jan]
Download - View

My first ever ITG edit. This was my first use of mines as a visual sort of effect, something i call a "mine curtain" that frames the beginning and end of the chart. I also decided to try an extended version of the Exotic Ethnic Double technique.
